The Curvy Girl Commandments
1. Create Curves in the Right Places
Don’t hide away those amazing assets, accentuate them. The secret to the perfect hourglass figure is proportion so boost your bust! Covering up problem areas with loose layers does nothing for your shape and can make you look frumpy. Instead highlight your sensual curves from waist to hip to create the ultimate feminine shape.
2. Dress for Your Shape
The classic 50’s dress will always give you the best shape; it’s timeless and highlights all the right places. The neat fitting top draws attention to those great boobs whilst a tailored waist creates the essential hour glass shape before skimming down to an A-line skirt – perfect! This season think darker colours for the supreme sophistication. Take your pick from V neck, sweetheart or scoop neckline they all look fabulous on you. Add a touch of colour to black with a ribbon tied round your waist, let the ribbon hang to the front to distract attention from your mid section if is a problem area. Finish with a shrug or bolero, great for hiding the tops or your arms too!
3. Suit Yourself
Stylish and single, your jacket that is! A short fitted jacket will draw your admirer’s eyes to your shapely waist and make your legs look longer. Make sure your jacket is fitted as this will give the best shape. Always go for single-breasted (double will make you look broader) the V neckline will show your beautiful collarbone and fasten with one or two buttons. If your waist is your thing, accentuate it with a belt, it will show your killer curves or opt for a shrug or bolero which will do the same.
4. Terrific Tops
When thinking of tops and shirts think structure, is there anything more glamorous than a woman in a corset? Styles that are tailored from below the chest down to your tummy help hide any lumps and bumps. Also try wrap tops, these are particularly good as often they can adapt to your shape. Remember previous rules regarding necklines; don’t miss an opportunity to flaunt your neckline by choosing high-necked blouses or polo-necks. Similarly no balloon-shaped smocked tops or loose fitting chunky knits that distract from your fabulous shape.
5. Sensational Skirts
Like your dresses, choose a 50s inspired skirt with a flared A-shape it will skim your hips and thighs but accentuate your feminine shape. A well tailored skirt will help hold in any problem areas but still sit well on your hips. Choose a hemline between your knee and mid calf unless your legs are your best asset and you feel comfortable showing a bit more but remember to leave something to the imagination! Avoid Pencil skirts which gather at the knee as this will exaggerate the shape of your hips.
6. Tailored Trousers
Get long, shapely legs by wearing the correct trouser cut and size. Don’t be fooled into thinking that tight or tapered trousers will make your legs appear thinner because it actually has the opposite effect making hips and thighs appear wider. Instead create curvy chic in looser, straight-legged trousers that are a little longer in length, sitting over your heels to elongate your legs. High waisted wide-legged trousers are very flattering and will hide any problem areas. A wide curved waistband that sits on (never below) your waist will create focus away from your hips. Look for darts which will allow the trousers to skim your widest part yet still sitting beautifully over your bum and thighs. Unless your legs are very long avoid cropped trousers as these will crop your leg length too.
7. Divine Denim
Shopping for jeans can be a nightmare but stick to our advice and you’ll soon have those perfect jeans. Avoid low-cut hipsters, they might fit better because they avoid your waist but the muffin- top look is a big no-no. Instead opt for a wide curved waistband that will avoid the possibility of builders bum or flashing your thong! Shapely women should choose a classic straight leg cut, or a slight boot-cut jean. Flared or wide-legged jeans are not flattering unless you’re blessed with height. For a stylish look choose a dark wash with discreet pockets and keep details (embroidery, beading or sequence) to a minimum. Check out our amazing ‘Tummy Tuck,’ jeans for an immediate transformation.
8. Classic Coats
A good classic coat will last more than the season, choose a single breasted, A-line shape that will always flatter. Select a collar, like your suit jacket, a V neckline or similar open neckline will compliment you best. Always choose a fitted coat rather than swamping your curves and a coat with a belt will emphasise your fabulous shapely curves.
9. Sexy Shoes
Ballet pumps may be comfortable but they do nothing for you legs! A small kitten heel can be equally as comfortable and will add inches onto the length of your legs. Don’t crop your leg with ankle straps, stick to pointy shoes that make legs appear longer. The more height, the longer your legs will seem and match footwear to your tights to give a streamlined lengthened effect. For eveningwear choose gold or silver shoes to complement your natural skin tone.
10. Amazing Accessories
If you’ve got a great waist make sure you show it off with a belt but avoid very wide or especially thin ones as they will make you look out of proportion. Alternatively, tie your belt to the side to draw attention away from your stomach. Always have a gorgeous necklace on it will draw attention to those great boobs! But avoid choker styles that can shorten your neck Great earrings draws the eye up to your face and hang your arms down by your side with chunky bangles to distract from you midriff. Finish your outfit with a fabulous bag that everyone will want to look at.
